Casa Fryzer

“An island in the sky” could easily describe Casa Fryzer, featured on our cover. No matter where you are in this home, the backdrop of sky and sea is never far away. Solidly planted on the pinnacle of Casita Mountain, several hundred feet above the Sea of Cortez, and partially encircled by an incredible 2,000-square-foot infinity pool, this amazing home offers 270-degree views to the south, east, and northeast.

Unlike a beachfront setting, the location offers a huge measure of privacy through its placement in a separate gated area within the exclusive Villas del Mar in the resort of Pamilla. “It is one of the most secure properties in Los Cabos,” says Andrew Lemke, partner at Snell Real Estate.

One goal for the owner was to prove he could build a home in Los Cabos that would measure up to those in New York, Los Angeles, Monaco or London, says Lemke, which means there was no compromise on finishes or amenities. The kitchen was handmade in Germany and reportedly cost $1 million. Particularly striking is the use of materials such as the backlit onyx in the bar; another huge piece of onyx, also backlit, clads a wall in the master bedroom.

What is most interesting is the overall feeling of the architecture and design. “There is a definite Asian influence but the home embraces its location in Mexico,” says Lemke, describing the style as Hacienda architecture with a contemporary flair. “It is all very tastefully done.”

The home was also designed for entertaining and in the past has accommodated parties with 500 or more guests. There are staff quarters for four onsite and an array of indulgent amenities from a private screening room to expansive outdoor space, including two pavilions accessed by bridges seeming to float above the blue of the pool. Compare this property to those in Palm Beach, Malibu, La Jolla and Hawaii, and you will find the only thing lacking are dollars in the list price, which is $25 million.
