On Location, The Cloister Ocean Residences, Sea Island, Georgia

When a place touts itself as offering gracious service and heartfelt hospitality, some of us are (rightfully) skeptical. And when a place touts itself as being the only resort in the world to have received four Forbes Five-Star awards for seven consecutive years, expectations are (understandably) astronomical. So when our visit to Sea Island, Georgia, far exceeded expectations, we knew we found a truly exceptional destination.

PLA-0108-105 15A tradition dating to 1928, to call Sea Island simply a resort seems a misnomer. The centerpiece, The Cloister at Sea Island, offers a collection of unsurpassed amenities that include a Beach Club on five miles of private beach, and an array of nature, boating, sporting, fishing and hunting activities. The Sea Island Golf Club at The Lodge includes three championship golf courses and regularly trains some of today’s best professional golfers.

Imagine waking, as we did, to the sounds of ocean breezes and savoring a fresh, hot breakfast on one of your two private oceanfront balconies. You’ll need your energy for a full day of activities ranging from guided horseback tours on the beach to a private sunset boat tour of the calming marsh waters, teeming with wildlife.

Sea Island hosted Unique Homes in a multimillion-dollar, one-bedroom, oceanfront suite at The Cloister Ocean Residences, a shared ownership opportunity that is gaining steam. “It’s a smart way to own and enjoy the best of Sea Island, with all the amenities and benefits of a Five-Star resort and none of the worries of maintaining a vacation home — all at a fraction of the initial and ongoing costs,” says Randy Burgess, project director for The Cloister Ocean Residences, who touts the $100,000 value of the Sea Island Club membership that comes with the purchase.

media_gallery_0037_highresOwners enjoy one-fourth undivided, deeded interests in fully furnished and maintained residences, with a guarantee of one week each month. A complimentary Chairman’s Club membership for three years in 3RD HOME offers the ability to exchange weeks for time at thousands of other luxurious destinations worldwide. Shares start at $375,000 and go to $1.1 million, with an average of $700,000.

“The Cloister Ocean Residences are much more than an oceanfront real estate purchase; they provide a lifestyle of quality time spent with family and friends, creating special memories and a legacy for generations to come,” says Burgess.

Memories were experienced everywhere on Sea Island, from the educational kayaking tour we took with several families, including teenagers more than happy to “unplug” to enjoy nature, to the culinary traditions and outstanding service we received over a multi-course dinner at the resort’s hallmark steakhouse, Colt & Alison. An afternoon of massages and relaxing at The Spa at Sea Island never will be forgotten either.

Unique Homes travels often to review resorts and developments for this On Location feature. And, with such frequent travel, one can become accustomed to luxurious treatment. But we can attest that the level of service and sophistication offered at Sea Island is unsurpassed.
