Blowing Rock, North Carolina
As I arrived at the Blue Ridge Mountain Club, awe-inspiring mountain views created a majestic first impression. But by the time I left, it was the awe-inspiring sense of community the club offers residents that created a lasting impression.
In the heart of the High Country of North Carolina, the environment here is framed by Jim Pitts, the general manager, and Reginald P. Bray, the director of marketing and sales. As they showed me the club, the two knew all of the residents’ names and from where they hailed.
With buyers from 18 states, plus Puerto Rico, the club enjoys a mix of primary and secondary homeowners, as well as vacationers. There is always something to do — welcome-back dinners are regularly planned at the start of each summer season; the club offers wine and wilderness clubs; and organized hiking, fishing and shooting trips provide opportunities to get to know the neighbors. Additionally, special events add to the offerings, such as the Summer Solstice concert being planned as I was there. “It’s such a big place, with a variety in what they can do here and you have many choices,” shares Bray.
Spanning 6,200 acres, there are about 160 homesites available at the Club, plus several categories of cottages, homes built for sale, and “cliff dweller” residences — homes built on long and narrow lots overlooking the mountain views. Ground is breaking on Watson Gap, which will feature a general store and a condominium neighborhood.
“Our approach all along has been to create something here that is a legacy for our members and their families,” says Pitts. “With the scope of this place, we can do something great and have longevity here. We’ve spent the last five years finding ways to connect, and what you find is that [Blue Ridge Mountain Club] attracts people with a love for the outdoors, who are inspired by the views and who have chosen the mountains over the coast.”
Blowing Rock, North Carolina, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, has been a vacation destination since the mid-18th century and was voted
No. 2 Best Location for a Summer Home by Haute Living.
Homesites range from $120,000 to $400,000 and average about 1-plus acres. Turnkey cottages are offered from $400,000. For more information, visit blueridgemountainclub.com

Wellness in Turkey
Wellness tourism is expected to increase 9.1 percent annually until 2017, according to the Global Wellness Institute, and the wellness tourism market has risen 39 percent in just one year in the Middle East, per SpaFinder Wellness 365. Universal21’s latest development, Diamond Residence, is one example of such a destination, perfect for residents who want to live their healthiest lives, coupled with a resort-like air.
In the Old Beylikdüzü district of Istanbul, Turkey, Diamond Residence is an innovative, modern property that boasts exclusive amenities like a vitamin bar, fitness center, an indoor swimming pool, massage room and Turkish bath. The 148-unit building is private, located away from the hustle and bustle of city life, with controlled pedestrian and vehicle entry.
Monica Anca, Director of Universal21, has noticed the growing interest in wellness living, and the Diamond Residence is living up to the demand. “The World Health Organization defines wellness as an active process of becoming aware of and making choices towards a healthy and fulfilling life. There has been a definite shift in the tourism market towards wellbeing and the demand to provide services that not only maintain a level of health, but also encourage and enrich such a lifestyle. Inevitably, this trend is beginning to appear within the property market, with owners looking to benefit from similar features on a more day-to-day basis in their homes,” shares Anca.
