Just a short boat ride west of world famous Harbour Island, in Eleuthera, Bahamas, Cabbage Cay is a lush 35-acre private island, featuring 24-foot elevations with three gorgeous sandy beaches, lush green vegetation, a protected anchorage area and exotic wildlife.

David Sklar, an “ecotecture” environmental designer, had a vision to create the first environmentally-friendly, off-the-grid island destination, all while protecting the island’s wildlife and nature. After approximately 10 years of construction, the island now produces its own power via a power grid system that uses solar panels and backup batteries. A closed loop reverse osmosis water system is used to capture rainwater. Roads, dockage and fruit and vegetable gardens have been created and combined with multiple ideally positioned living spaces.
The eco-friendly project now includes a stunning 650-square-foot apartment that sits above a fully functioning bar and grill with fantastic views of the aqua waters. There is also a lovely cottage consisting of a living room, bedroom and bathroom overlooking the protected bay and a partially constructed hilltop unit, which sits 40 feet above sea level with 360-degree views.
The overall design is breathtaking with clean lines, light coastal hues and views from all angles. Outdoor living spaces are ample with hammocks swinging among palm trees, covered beachfront lounge chairs and outdoor seating, perfect for lounging under the stars. “The unique combination of proximity, privacy and freedom make this property truly priceless.” says Arthur, who has listed the property for $6.9 million.
